Join the Urban Garden Project

Get Your Soil Tested, Urban Garden CasualBy Vanessa Richins

Urban gardening is getting hotter every day.

The folks at the Urban Garden Project want to help inspire urban residents to start their own garden.

Their website proudly proclaims: “The Urban Garden Project is the initiative to encourage Americans to learn from history, become more self-reliant, save a significant amount of money, and eat healthier, all as a result of planting their own urban garden!”

They would like to see the creation and documenting of 100,000 urban gardens by the year 2020.

It’s an ambitious goal for any website, but they have the right spirit about it, noting that they are taking it one garden at a time.

The website has instructions for growing a garden, along with videos to show you how. I watched a video on how to make your own compost turner from recycled materials. This was very timely for me, as I had a friend call me today about buying one. Perhaps we can just make one instead!

I was intrigued by their post about building an urban chicken coop. Since the poster was using the Square Foot Gardening method, the coop was built to fit inside a 4×4 raised bed. This way, he explained, it could be rotated over the years to different sites within the garden

They will also have video reviews of garden products so you can see them in action.

Come help them out with their project by registering your urban garden. If you don’t have one yet, you need to see if you could do it. Whether it’s one pot on a windowsill or a small garden plot, everyone can be a gardener. Help the Urban Garden Project realize their dream of 100,000 urban gardens by signing up today.

See video of them explaining the project below.

I know it’s a little late Vanessa, but thanks for the post! Daily we are encouraged about the folks coming out of the woodwork to support and join with us on this initiative!
