Even though I’ve been using the Internet for over 14 years now, I am still amazed by how much information is available for free.

A case in point is Youtube.

It’s not just music videos and Tv shows.

There is a large variety of videos designed to help you grow plants better.

Here are some videos you should check out:

Introduction to Square Foot Gardening

Mel Bartholomew, the author of the highly acclaimed Square Foot Gardening book, gives a brief intro to the world of square foot gardening. This is perfect for urban gardeners everywhere with little room to spare.

Patti Moreno, the Garden Girl, shows you another method of maximizing your growing potential through vertical gardening with this three part series.

Making Paper Pots

Dave’s Garden shows you how to recycle your newspaper into paper pots as a cheap way to start your own seeds. Don’t use any glossy papers as the inks may be problematic.

Homemade Bug Spray

The Bayou Gardener will show you how to make a homemade bug spray using Ivory soap and peppers.

Lawns to Edible Landscapes

In this video, the Garden Girl encourages you to take out your lawn and put in some edibles.

Love Patti Moreno “the garden girl” we found her videos a while back. Did not know about “Dave’s Garden” very glad to see that one. Learning how to make bug spray was nice as well. What a great post. Thank you, have a good weekend.

I’m a first time urban gardener getting growing on my fire escape in Manhattan and Grandmother’s backyard in Brooklyn. Growing in self-watering containers. Haven’t read much, just been doing and documenting everything as I learn.

You are so right about YouTube! I came to the same realization recently. If you just listened to the media, you would think that YouTube is only filled with prank videos and kids singing along to records. I’ve found plenty of instructional videos for gardening, hair styling, knitting, and all kinds of things.
